Lagos ATM robbery: Police nab 28-yr-old gang member

The police in Lagos, yesterday, said they have arrested a 28-year-old member of a robbery gang, Nonso Egbuzobi, that killed three policemen while attempting to break into an Automated Teller Machine, ATM, of a second generation bank in Ayobo area of the state in November.

Vanguard gathered that two members of the gang were also killed during an earlier encounter with operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, at Ilasamaja area of the state.

Four AK-47 rifles, with serial numbers 403647, 132969, 5008685, 20640 and 24 AK-47 magazines, all loaded, were recovered from the killed suspects.

Sources disclosed that the AK-47 rifles belong to policemen killed during the Ayobo and Igando Police encounters with the bandits.

Two of the rifles were said to be those of late ASP Longinus Amuzie and one of his colleagues attached to Ayobo police station who were killed while responding to a distress call at the bank, while one was snatched from a policeman killed while on guard at a a hotel in Igando area of state.

The bandits, however, met their waterloo when they attempted to rob a man of N10 million at Ilasamaja area of Lagos.

SARS operatives led by SP Abba Kyari, were said to have gotten a tip-off and engaged them in a shoot-out, killing Daniel Onuoha, and Eyo Bassey, with an army identity card, while Nonso Egbuzobi was arrested alive.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, who paraded the suspect, yesterday said he received information on the robbery and ordered his men to foil it by all means.

Manko added that investigations by SARS operatives led them to a house agent who helped the robbers secure accommodation and when their house was searched, the four AK-47 rifles, which belonged to slain policemen, were recovered while the agent was also killed while attempting to escape.

He said a police walkie-talkie with which the robbers monitored police movement was recovered.

When Vanguard interviewed captured Egbuzobi, he said he only followed the gang to one operation.

According to him, “some weeks ago, I was at a snooker joint around LagosStateUniversity when a man approached me, saying he had a target that we could rob at Ilasamaja. I told him I was not a robber but I knew people who were capable.

“I approached one robber known as Fine Money and I connected him with the person that gave me information.

“On December 4, 2013, Fine Money picked me up in a SUV around Mile 2 and I led him and two other guys to the house at Ilasamaja and we were told that the victim had N10 million in his house.

“They all had guns but I decided that I would only remain in the car. However, before they could come down, policemen started shooting at us and everyone in the vehicle died except me because I hid on the floor of the car.

“Like I said, this was my first time and I did not rob, I only gave the robbers information that they needed. I am a responsible man and even a footballer at LASU. It was poverty that pushed me in to it.”

The nuptial which took place at the Four-square Gospel Church, Omole, Ikeja District Headquarters.
Folawemi Taiwo Okunniyi and Febisola Kehinde Okunniyi are identical twin sisters from the same parents and they hail from Ondo State, and the grooms, Chinonso Akinade Okueze and Chibuzor Adelakin Okueze are also identical twins from the same parents from Asaba, Delta State.

Contrary to what many may think that it was an ‘arranged’ marriage project, one of the grooms, Chinonso, said it wasn’t planned that way.

He said “When I saw Fola, I was struck. Unlike what many think that ‘Kehindes’ are always faster, I was sharper than him. I started dating Fola first, but one day, I noticed that he was going out, but he didn’t tell me where he was going.

That was so strange so I decided to find out where he was going, and I realised he was visiting the Okunniyis. He later told me he likes Febi, and I told him it was okay that he should stick to her, because I already had my eyes on Fola.”
Chibuzor also re-iterated his twin brother’s claim that the joint wedding wasn’t initially planned.

“We thank God and give Him all the glory. I pray that this ‘friendship’ that has started today will last for a very long time,” he enthused.

Man, 19, defiles three-yr-old girl in Ekiti

A man, Usman Joshua, 19, has been arrested by the police in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl. (names withheld).

Joshua, who is a co-tenant with the toddler’s parents, was said to have lured her into his room with biscuit at about 5:05 pm on November 3, 2013.

Her mother, Wuraola, said she noticed that her daughter was not feeling comfortable when she returned to their apartment by evening of the said day.

A closer look by her mother showed that the little girl had been defiled. She told her mother that she was playing within the compound when Joshua told her to come for biscuit.

As a neighbour, the unsuspecting girl followed him into his apartment.

She said: “This man called me and asked me to come and collect biscuit in his room. He took off my dress after placing me on his laps. He took off his own clothes too and slept on top of me.”

In her account, Wuraola said: “ On November 3 at about 5:05pm, I saw my daughter outside with her pant almost falling off her waist. I rushed down to meet her and discovered that someone poured sperm all over her body. I asked where she was coming from and she said it was one daddy that took her to his room.

“She said that he slept on top of her after giving her some biscuits. She took me to the room where the man was. I called my landlady and we questioned him. He confessed to have committed the crime.”

She later reported the incident to the police.

Joshua in his own account said: “I am a co-tenant. The girl followed me inside my room and started playing with me. She climbed upon my chest and played with my private part.

“When I got an erection, I could no longer control myself. I removed her pant and inserted my penis in between her laps. I could not penetrate but I released sperm on her and let her go. That was my first time with her. I have never done such a thing with a girl of her age. I don’t know the kind of spirit that came over me”.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, Mr. Victor Babayemi (ASP), said: “Based on our investigation, Joshua had sex with the infant. He was aware of her age but took advantage of her.”

Now that's a Blue! Sexy scrums and cute catchers in the lineout as Oxford Uni women's rugby team strip off for calendar

  • Female team stripped down to just rugby boots and socks
  • Raising money for Mind Your Head, Oxford's mental health campaign
The autumn internationals have just finished, but rugby fans will be eagerly anticipating the first day of 2014 when they can place this calendar on their walls.

Oxford University women's rugby team are copying their male counterparts by posing for their own naked calendar - with only strategically positioned hands to maintain their modesty.

The female team stripped down to just their rugby boots and socks for the black and white photographs taken around the city to raise cash for charity.

The calendar is being sold for £10 to raise money for Mind Your Head, Oxford's mental health awareness campaign.

Tatiana Cutts, 25, who tackles team-mate Danielle Yardy, 23, by the river in the September photograph, said it was 'mostly hilarious, really very cold, and absolutely worth it for such a good cause'.

The law PhD student at Keble College, who lectures undergraduates part time and is the club captain, said: 'It was a bit nerve-racking at first but after a minute it was good fun and great for team bonding.

'We were lucky it was a sunny day, but I was still absolutely freezing in the picture. We ended up in the river twice, it was utterly miserable.'

Miss Cutts, who is from Tavistock, Devon, and went to Devonport High School for Girls, dismissed the idea that the calendar is distasteful. 'What we're doing is celebrating strong women,' she said. 'These girls are athletics, these are their body shapes, and they should be celebrated.'

The women's rugby team, who have the motto 'Back Yourself', decided to pose for their own calendar after previously helping to sell the men's calendar.

Club president Elizabeth Dubois, from Dartmouth, Canada, who is studying for a PhD in Information, Communication and the Social Sciences at Balliol, said: 'We saw the success of the men's calendar last year and while were helping to sell them at matches people said "if it was your team in the pictures, we would buy one".

'Playing rugby is certainly an opportunity to build skill and physical strength, but it is also a chance to release stress, form a social support structure, and feel welcomed.

'With this calendar the club hopes to highlight the inclusiveness of women's rugby.

'When you play women's rugby people have a stereotypical image of you and we wanted to confront that. We have girls of all shapes and sizes, and studying all types of academic subject.'

The calendar features current members of Oxford University Women's Rugby Football Club on the pitch, in the gym, in the library, and around Oxford.

Tiwa Savage’s husband, T-Billz destroys photographer’s camera at Sound Sultan’s birthday party

About a week ago, musician Sound Sultan celebrated his birthday by throwing a party that had his colleagues, friends and family members in attendance, however, Tiwa Savage’s husband, T-Billz created a scene by attacking one of the photographers at the event.

Tee Billz allegedly attacked the photo-journalist Victor Obot, for taking pictures against his will.

NET reports that “he snatched the camera in front of several witnesses and crashed it in on the floor damaging the lens and other accessories in the camera.”

Narrating his side of the story, Victor Obot also known as Elejo, said ‘I wasn’t even pointing the camera at him. The camera was directed at another guest who was sitting next to him, and then all of a sudden, he snatched my camera from me and smashed it.’

‘‘From what I gathered, T-Billz had warned Elejo (photo-journalist) not to take snapshots of him. Much later, I saw T-Billz grabbing the camera from him and then the camera fell on the floor in the process. Although I do not endorse T-Billz’s action, but I think the Elejo should have respected his wish and not try to take snap shots of him’’ Musician Azadus who witnessed the whole incident told NET

Reacting to the report however, Tee Billz denied destroying the camera, saying ‘It is not true. You can go ahead and cook up whatever story you like. It is not going to shake me in anyway”

Burna Boy banned from UK for 15 years

Sometimes, talents aren’t just enough.

Burna Boy is one of the most talented singers in Nigeria today but his “uncontrollable” character has cost a 15 years ban from the United Kingdom.

‘He can’t be told anything to do, he’s a big boy right now. He won’t just listen anymore, we are frustrated with his actions’.” his label mates told NET.

Burna boy who is presently having issues with his label, Aristokrat, has not only moved out of the house provided for him by the label in Lekki Phase 1 but he has also extricated himself from them and now handles his career with a former label employee who now only answers to him (Burna).

‘He wants to be in more control of his career’, they further told the online portal.

Well, Burn Boy’s ‘uncontrollable’ mannerism and persona didn’t just start yesterday; a few months ago he allegedly attacked and slapped a ticket attendant at the Silverbird cinema, Port Harcourt.

Also, a while in the UK back in 2010, he was arrested and sent to jail by London Police for allegedly being part of a gang and stabbing someone to death.

He was released after 11 months and given two months parole plus community service on the grounds of being of ‘good behaviour’, however, Burna allegedly disobeyed authorities and travelled back to Nigeria where he signed a record deal with Aristokrat.

While attempting to later travel back to the UK a while later, he was arrested at the airport and deported to Nigeria and barred from the UK for the next 15 years.
