Nigerian Security Agencies Committed To Averting Attacks On Schools, IGP Abubakar Says

IGP MD Abubakar Presenting Gift To Students Of Pacesetters’ College
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr. MD Abubakar, on Tuesday assured Nigerians that the security agencies are working together towards ensuring the safety and security of students and academic institutions nationwide.

He made the statement at the Force Headquarters, Abuja when the staff and students of Pacesetters’ College, Gwarinpa, Abuja, paid a visit.

A statement by police spokesman Frank Mba said the IGP cited the concern and directive of President Goodluck Jonathan to the security agencies to do everything humanly possible to ensure that no child, student and their teachers are attacked again anywhere in the country.

“The IGP who requested for the observance of a one minute silence in honour of the students who were recently murdered in Yobe State by criminal elements stated that both overt and covert deployment of operatives into schools are being increased while the security agencies are also working with local communities to improve security in and around schools,” the statement said.

Mr. Abubakar underscored the importance of education in society, and emphasized that it is the only worthwhile legacy any parent or guardian can bequeath to a child or ward. He further noted the giant efforts his administration is making towards ensuring that the Force is manned by the best hands, and called on the students to consider the Nigeria Police as a viable career option.

In attendance during the meeting were senior police officers, as well as the staff of Pacesetters’ College, led by Mr. Raphael Adenoye, and members of the press.
