Women from all walks of life, yesterday, came out en masse at various state capitals to protest the spate of bombings and killings in the north, especially the killing of the 43 students of Federal Government College, FGC, Bunu Yadi, Yobe State and the abduction of 25 female students of the school by the Boko Haram sect.
The protesters in Lagos defied the early morning downpour across the state and converged in Ikeja to demand that the Federal Government and the 36 states governors and the military agencies proffer solutions to end insurgency in the country.
In response, Governor Babatunde Fashola, represented by the Head of Service, Mrs. Oluseyi William, who led other members of the executive team, including the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Aderemi Ibirogba and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information and Strategy, Mr. Lateef Raji, said “I am a mother and grandmother and I share in this pain.”
According to her, “I must tell you that your mission today is a very noble one. It is befitting of women to do things peacefully as you have done it.

Also, wife of Ekiti State Governor, Erelu Bisi Fayemi; Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu; and Commissioner for Women Affairs, Social Development and Gender Empowerment, Mrs. Fola Richie-Adewusi, yesterday led a procession of other notable women in Ekiti State over the killings
The women, who expressed their worry over the massacre of the innocent students,called for improved security network in all the public schools and places of job all over the country.
Mrs Fayemi called on Nigerian mothers to join forces in prayers for the country for an end to the Boko Haram menace and for peace to reign in different parts of the country.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governor, Prof Adelabu, called for eternal vigilance by residence and enjoined them to promptly report any suspicious movement of persons or objects to law enforcement agents to nip these attacks in the bud.
In Port Harcourt, about 40 women in Rivers State under the aegis of Concerned Women of Nigeria, Rivers State chapter, yesterday, embarked on a peaceful protest, denouncing the recent killings.
The women, dressed in black attire, marched from Isaac Boro Park area of Port Harcourt as early as 9 a.m to Government House where they were received by a member of the state House of Assembly, Hon. Golden Chioma.
The Police provided escort for the protesters as they marched through the popular Azikiwe Road to Government House, Port Harcourt.
Some of them who spoke to the press lamented the death of the innocent students, saying the Federal Government should take steps to guarantee security of lives and property in the country.
Chioma, who received the protesters, also condemned the sad incident.
It was gathered that the protest was also held in London, United Kingdom and nine other states in the country.
In Oyo State, no fewer than 200 women marched through major roads in Ibadan to protest the killing of students.
